Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Support our day-to-day operations by volunteering on-site.

Volunteer Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 12:00pm

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
  • A minimum commitment of one shift per week
  • Comfortable with physical activity (sorting, stocking, assisting clients)

Activities include:

  • Sorting food donations
  • Stocking shelves
  • Serving and assisting guests

Reference letters may be provided for volunteers who:

  • Commit to a minimum of 5 months
  • Complete at least one shift per week
  • Meet expectations at the discretion of the executive director

Selected applicants will be contacted for an interview when opportunities are available.

We offer volunteer opportunities for high school students who want to support their community.

Program Details:

  • One Sunday per month (additional weekend opportunities may be available as needed)
  • Training is provided

Requirements:

  • Must be a high school student
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs
  • Comfortable with light physical tasks

Activities Include:

  • Bagging donated food items at FreshCo (Major Mackenzie & Leslie) and Sobeys Jefferson 
  • Helping collect and prepare donations for the food bank.

Program Details:

  • Available October to March from 12 – 2:15 PM
  • Contact us in September to book fall dates
  • Maximum group size: 10 people

Requirements:

  • A food drive or financial donation is encouraged as part of your group participation.

Activities include:

  • Food sorting
  • Stocking shelves
  • Organizing food baskets
  • A tour of our  facilities

Support the food bank in an easy and unique way.

Program Details:

  • Bingo World supports 90+ non-profits across York Region and has raised over $15 million for local organizations since 2013.
  • Volunteer hours: Thursday evenings (2-hour shifts)
    • 6 – 8 PM
    • 8 – 10 PM
  • No money handling required
  • Includes a 30-minute online training + in person training shift

Requirements:

  • Must be 18+

Activities include:

  • Greeting customers
  • Tidying food trays
  • Providing light support during sessions
  • Verifying balls before bingo session
  • Light cleaning of tables after bingo session
